Kevin is the Senior Pastor of the Yankee Road First Church of God.
"Having been born into a Church of God family, I received my spiritual instruction from my home church, Flag Branch Church of God in Greeneville, Tennessee. I was gloriously saved in February of 1979 at the age of 19. My Christian service began as an usher, then as a Sunday school teacher, then as Co-Director of the Junior Church program, which averaged 60-70 boys
and girls from ages nine through twelve.
I became Bus Ministry Director of this congregation between February 1980 - August 1982, with a bus ministry of over 200 average per Sunday on five buses. I also worked as Co-Director of the church’s Soul Winning program. During this time, I visited door to door with evangelism teams and personally led many people to Christ.
At the age of twenty, God placed His call upon my life to preach. This was in December of 1980. The Tennessee Assembly licensed me as a Church of God minister in 1981. In August of 1982, my wife and I moved to Houston Texas where I enrolled in pastoral ministry classes at Gulf Coast Bible College. While there, Max R. Gaulke founder of Gulf Coast Bible College, asked me to work with him in pastoring a new church plant in Missouri City, Texas. The church grew from 20 to 50 in attendance while there.
In October of 1983, I was called to be full-time pastor of the First Church of God at Prestonsburg, Kentucky. I was ordained during my pastorate at Prestonsburg in 1984. While at Prestonsburg, church income grew from average of $35,000 annually to $74,000 annually. Many improvements were made to the properties and additional property was purchased. God blessed
us with many souls finding Christ during our ministry there.
After pastoring 11 years at Prestonsburg, God called us to the Branchview First Church of God in Concord, North Carolina in November of 1994. God blessed our ministry there with 90-100 people won to Christ over five years.
Financially, the church grew from $134,000 annual income to $217,000 in five years. Attendance in the last year as pastor (1999-2000) the church averaged 198 in morning worship. Up from a 129 average in 1994. More ministerial staff were added than at any other time in the history of the church, 3 additional staff members were added (not including pastor), 1 full-time and 2 part-time.
In March of 2000, the call came from the Yankee Road Church of God in Middletown Ohio to become their sixth pastor.
Yankee Road First Church of God has had a tremendous impact in Church of God, (Anderson, Indiana-national offices) circles throughout its splendid history. The congregation, has had a tremendous impact on countless life’s since it’s birth nearly 70 years ago. Many people in Middletown and the surrounding communities have been touched by the outreach and
ministering of the Yankee Road faithful. Whether through helping others financially in times of crises, or offering spiritual help and comfort at times of bereavement, Yankee Road has been a tremendous source of strength and comfort through living, believing and exemplifying Christ’s message of love, comfort and caring for one another.
This life of love and labor was even shown to one of its most recent pastor’s and sons, the Rev. Andy Back. While pastoring the congregation, Rev. Back’s cancer that had been in remission, came back. The congregation rallied together took care of his needs and kept his full salary paid until the day he passed away in 1999. Though Rev. Back offered to resign from his leadership
several times the Board of Trustees refused to accept his resignation and chose rather to show their love for their pastor and trust God to supply their needs.
This is but a sample of the faith and love that the Yankee Road congregation has always exhibited. The congregation now has the vision to expand their ministry. They have a vision to expand this love and caring spirit into a new community in a new facility that will give them ample room to meet the needs of even more people. In 2003, 13.5 acres of property was
purchased for the price of $600,000.00 to begin plans for a multi-purpose ministry campus located in one of the fastest growing communities in Butler County Ohio.
I have no doubt that God is honoring our congregation’s faithfulness that they have exercised them down through the years. God is blessing this body of believers with a new vision that will enable this congregation to be a strong, viable, healthy congregation that is passed on through generation after generation. The people of this church have a firm belief that God is calling them to pave the way for those coming behind them so that lives may be touched in the future just as their lives have been in the past. They want to pass the torch of their faith to a younger generation and in doing so they are willing to make the sacrifice to see this dream of a new facility and location come true."
Kevin and his wife Joyce were married in 1980 and have two children, Stephanie and Stephen.
